Large Cat Captured on CCTV Camera Has Scottish Locals Nervous

A woman living in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland, recently captured CCTV footage of a large cat roaming around her property and sitting on top of her three-foot fence in the middle of the night. This news of a large cat roaming around has locals worried.

In an interview with the Daily Record, the woman (who wished to remain anonymous) explained what happened, “It was around 3.55am on Saturday morning and was recorded on the camera on the doorbell.” “I phoned the police and they told me to contact the SSPCA who told me to contact Big Cat Sightings and they have phoned me back and said that it was a big cat – an adult Puma.” “I was in the house and my husband phoned me to say ‘did you see that big thing out our front doorstep last night.’” “I said ‘it must be a fox’ but he went ‘look at the size of it!’ so then I thought yes it was absolutely massive.”

Is a puma roaming around?

She went on to say that the creature dug at her neighbor’s garden. This news of the large feline has locals worried as the woman said, “I’ve got a wee dog so I’m scared to let it out at night or anything in case the cat is still about.”

The video of the large cat in the woman’s yard can be seen here.

In recent years, there have been several reports of people seeing large wild cats around Scotland even though they’re not native to the area. According to a 2018 report by The Scotsman, there is only one native species of wild cat in the United Kingdom and that is the Scottish Wildcat. The feline, which is only about the size of a domesticated cat, lives in the Scottish Highlands. This is hard to believe as so many people have reported seeing much larger cats roaming around.

There have been several theories as to where these creatures came from, such as being released or escaping captivity. In fact, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs stated that as of December 2016, there were 27 reports of exotic cats that have escaped from either a private collection or zoos since 1975 (and there are probably more cases since those numbers were from five years ago).

Based on those reports, perhaps the escaped felines did start breeding and created their own populations across the United Kingdom.
